PADI Night Diver Specialty

As the sun sets, you don your dive gear, slip on your mask and bite down on your regulator. A deep breath and you step off the boat – into the underwater night. Although you’ve seen this reef many times before, this time you drop into a whole new world and watch it come to life under the glow of your dive light.

The adventure, thrill and excitement of night diving can be yours when you complete your PADI Night Diver Specialty course. You learn about night dive planning, equipment and navigation. You practice these on three night dives, plus introduce yourself to the whole new cast of critters that comes out after the sun goes down.

Our PADI Night Diver program includes three open water dives. You’ll earn to prepare night dive activities and develop techniques for safe night diving, proper buoyancy control, navigating and communicating in night-time environments.  In addition you’ll learn proper use of dive lights, buddy system techniques, dealing with disorientation, emergency procedures and orientation to nocturnal aquatic life.

  • Orientation to Nocturnal Aquatic Life
  • Communication and Light Handling
  • Use of dive lights and buddy-system techniques.
  • Disorientation and emergency procedures.

Session One (Open-Water):

  • Dive Briefing

  • Paperwork

  • Short Lecture

  • Dive #1

Approx. Time: 3 Hrs

Session Two (Open-Water):

  • Dive Briefing

  • Dives #2 & #3

  • Review

  • Exam

Approx. Time: 5-10 Hrs

(Depending on whether it’s a Beach or Boat Dive Program)

Certification counts toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.

NIGHT DIVER CLASS REQUIREMENTS

PREREQUISITE

REQUIRED GEAR
Completion of the PADI Open Water Class or equivalent*.

(Minimum age 12 to Register)

*If your certification is listed below you may qualify to enroll in this PADI Specialty Course at Pacific Wilderness.

-CMAS 1 Star Diver

-NAUI Open Water

-YMCA Open Water

 The Following Equipment is Required for this Specialty Class:

  • Basic Gear (Purchased in OpenWater)
  • Full SCUBA Gear (Rental Available**)
    • Regulator System
    • B. C.
    • Tank
    • Wetsuit & Hood
    • Weight Belt

Plus the Following needed for Night Diver Class:

  • Primary Light
  • Backup Light
  • Chemical Light sticks (2) or similar Device

Plus the Following needed for all Specialty Classes:

  • Dive Knife & Slate*
  • Compass*
  • Whistle*
  • Dive Bag for Boat Trips*
  • Safety Sausage*

*Note, this Equipment is Required at ALL Dive Shops and is not included in the Class.

**Full SCUBA Gear is available for Rental at a Package Rate of $60 for the Weekend

FOR COMPLETION
  • Attend Class Session and Complete Assignments.
  • Demonstrate Proficiency in Buoyancy Control
  • Pass Written Exam

Private – Boat Dives Program

The Specialty Boat Dives program incorporates about 13 hours of Instruction Customized to your Schedule with Four Supervised Dives to Complete your Specialty Certification.We recommend this Course to Students for Several Reasons:

  1. The most fear for Divers is Fear of the Unknown.  Night Dive and explore the mysteries of the unknown – You’ll be glad you did!
  2. Night Divers see a Whole Different World… and many New Creatures!
  3. It allows those with Difficult or Varying Work Schedules to take Specialty Classes.
  4. It gives your Group the ability to take a Private Specialty Class with just your Friends at a comparable Price to Standard “Pre-Scheduled” Courses at other shops
  5. This Course has the Most Varied Schedule Available because you set it!
  6. Smaller class sizes mean more Personalized Attention.

To book your own “Private” Class please use the following Outline for time allocations:

  • Session #1 (Dives):  – You will need to Dedicate a Half Day. Our Beach Dives are normally arranged early morning when conditions are typically best.  Session normally runs 7 am to 10 am.
  • Session #2 (Dives) – You will need to Dedicate a Full Day. Our Boat Trips are scheduled a Year in Advance and can be Viewed Here. Look up any “Shop Boat Dive” and use those dates in planning your Schedule. Session normally runs 6:30 am to 5 pm.
