Knowing where you are underwater and where you’re going comes in real handy, especially if you’re looking for an object or locating that beautiful reef that you heard about.  So, be the diver everyone wants to follow and make your sense of direction legendary with the PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty course. When everyone’s buzzing about a reef or checking out a wreck, they’re having a great time – until it’s time to go. Then they turn to you, because as a PADI Underwater Navigator, you know the way back to the boat.

Underwater navigation can be challenging, but with the PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty course, you’ll master the challenge.

During your PADI Underwater Navigator program you’ll go on three open water dives familiarizing yourself with the skills, knowledge, planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems, hazards and enjoyment of underwater navigation.

Covered in this Course:

  • Planning Navigation Dives

  • Procedures in Navigating

  • Natural Navigation Techniques

  • Estimating Underwater Distance

  • Following Navigation Patterns

  • Dive Site Relocation

  • Following Irregular Courses using the “Nav-Finder”

Session One (Open-Water):

  • Dive Briefing

  • Paperwork

  • Short Lecture

  • Dive #1

Approx. Time: 3 Hrs

Session Two (Open-Water):

  • Dive Briefing

  • Dives #2 & #3

  • Review

  • Exam

Approx. Time: 5-10 Hrs
(Depending on whether it’s a Beach or Boat Dive Program)

Certification counts toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.

NAVIGATION CLASS REQUIREMENTS

PREREQUISITE

REQUIRED GEAR

Completion of the PADI Open Water Class or equivalent*.

(Minimum age 12 to Register)

-BSAC Ocean Diver

-NAUI Open Water

-SSI Open Water
-YMCA Open Water

The Following Equipment is Required for this Specialty Class:

  • Basic Gear (Purchased in OpenWater)
  • Full SCUBA Gear (Rental Available**)
    • Regulator System
    • B. C.
    • Tank
    • Wetsuit & Hood
    • Weight Belt

    Plus the Following needed for all Specialty Classes:

  • Dive Knife & Slate*
  • Compass*
  • Whistle*
  • Dive Bag for Boat Trips*
  • Safety Sausage*

*Note, this Equipment is Required at ALL Dive Shops and is not included in the Class.

**Full SCUBA Gear is available for Rental at a Package Rate of $60 for the Weekend

FOR COMPLETION

  • Attend Class Session and Complete Assignments.
  • Demonstrate Proficiency in Navigation & use of a Compass
  • Pass Written Exam

Private – Boat Dives Program

The Specialty Boat Dives program incorporates about 13 hours of Instruction Customized to your Schedule with Four Supervised Dives to Complete your Specialty Certification.  We recommend this Course to Students for Several Reasons:

  1. Navigation can help you find the way back to the Boat or Beach.
  2. Good Navigators are typically Leaders rather than Followers during Dives.
  3. It allows those with Difficult or Varying Work Schedules to take Specialty Classes.
  4. It gives your Group the ability to take a Private Specialty Class with just your Friends at a comparable Price to Standard “Pre-Scheduled” Courses at other shops
  5. This Course has the Most Varied Schedule Available because you set it!
  6. Smaller class sizes mean more Personalized Attention.

Classes Size of One up to Eight 

Your Course Fee Includes:

  • Customized Course Schedule
  • Tuition Fee
  • PADI Navigation Manual
  • PADI Navigation Video
  • PADI “Nav-Finder”
  • PADI Specialty Certification Card.
  • (2) Beach Dives with Instructor
  • (1) Boat Dives with Instructor
  • Catalina Island Boat Trip

To book your own “Private” Class please use the following Outline for time allocations:

  • Session #1 (Dives):  – You will need to Dedicate a Half Day. Our Beach Dives are normally arranged early morning when conditions are typically best.  Session normally runs 7 am to 10 am.
  • Session #2 (Dives) – You will need to Dedicate a Full Day. Our Boat Trips are scheduled a Year in Advance and can be Viewed Here. Look up any “Shop Boat Dive” and use those dates in planning your Schedule. Session normally runs 6:30 am to 5 pm.
